Disabling the emacs Twitter client, sorry I like my twitter to be entirely separate from my dev environment. You likely installed your starter kit to a location like, ‘/Users/danmayer/Library/Preferences/Aquamacs Emacs/aquamacs-emacs-starter-kit’, go there to find the files for modification. # Disabling/Removing some Starter Kit features #Change aquamacs theme installFirst install Aquamacs starter kit There were a few things that I couldn’t stand from the defaults in the Aquamacs Starter Kit and removed also some modifications that I added. This looks like a really interesting option, but I decided I liked some of the nice extra sugar that Aquamacs provides. Topfunky’s project is based on the original emacs starter kit, but has been customized to work well with Carbon Emacs, which is more cross compatible than Aquamacs, so your emacs config is more likely to be portable to all unix systems as well as OS X with Carbon emacs. Some people have forks that are supposed to work better with Aquamacs, but it seems the kit built from the ground up for Aquamacs works best. The original Starter kit, from Technomancy, doesn’t play nicely with Aquamacs and leads to some issues. Emacs Starter Kit Topfunky’s Emacs Starter Kit Aquamacs Starter Kit In the end I ended up going with Aquamacs Starter Kit, namely because I have been a fan of Aquamacs for awhile, and already new my way around it’s system pretty well. I looked at a couple options for existing Emacs configuration setups for Ruby. I decided it was time to get my emacs config under control, and under git so it was portable and easy to revert update etc. My emacs setup was a hodge podge of various plugins, code from friends, blogs, etc… It wasn’t organized and was hard to maintain and fine tune. Emacs, Aquamacs, emacs starter kit, developmentI have been using Emacs as my default editor for awhile now.

Scientists Say There’s an ‘Anti-Universe’ Running Backward in Time.Time Might Not Exist at All, Some Scientists Say.The Universe Can Bend the Laws of Physics All By Itself, Scientists Say.Information Could Be the Fifth State of Matter, Proving We Live in a Simulation. In addition to failing to incorporate gravity, the Standard Model also doesn’t offer up an explanation for the massive amounts of dark energy and dark matter that make up 95 percent of the universe, according to NASA. Gravity’s omission from this family picture is just one of several problems with the Standard Model, leading more and more physicists to believe that its reign as the ultimate physics theory may be waning. Because gravity’s effect at the subatomic level is so tiny, it cannot easily fit into the framework of the Standard Model-despite physicists’ best efforts. Higgs, the most recent addition to the group, which gives mass to other particlesĪltogether, these bosons create four out of five fundamental forces, with gravity being a glaring exception.W and Z bosons, which are responsible for the weak force and radioactive decay.Gluons, which hold quarks to each other with the strong force to help create atoms.Photons, which carry the electromagnetic force. For all 12 fermions, there are only five known bosons: However, these particles would be nothing without bosons to ferry them around or stick them together. Together, leptons and quarks make up all matter we interact with in our universe. ( “Flavor” is the name that physicists give to different versions of the same kind of particle.) Neutrinos are often referred to as a “ghost” particle because they rarely interact with other matter and can only be spotted through the tracks they leave behind. The lepton family also includes a kind of “superlight” particle, called a “neutrino,” that comes in three flavors associated with the other non-quark leptons: tau neutrino, muon neutrino, and electron neutrino. Quantum Time Reversal Could Help Find Dark Matter. In a First, Physicists Prove That Quarks Have Mass.Physicists Just Found a New Elementary Particle.Within the fermion family there are six “ leptons,” which includes electrons, and six particles called “ quarks.” There are two main camps these 17 particles can be sorted into: “ fermions” and “ bosons.” Roughly speaking, you can think of fermions as the “stuff” of matter and bosons as the forces moving that stuff around. Solidified in the 1970s, the Standard Model consists of 17 fundamental particles that make up a big chunk of (but not quite all) matter in the universe. We’ll help you make sense of it all-join Pop Mech Pro. However, on a subatomic level, your favorite mug is made up of exactly the same stuff that’s being shattered at the LHC, and it can all fit within a neat framework that physicists call the Standard Model of particle physics. From the outside, the high-speed collisions of atomic nuclei inside particle accelerators like CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) may seem like they have very little in common with more mundane objects like your morning coffee or fluffy slippers. Trello has plans for a workload management feature that’s currently a work-in-progress. However, they do have features that can lend themselves to helping manage your workload. Unfortunately neither Trello nor Meistertask currently has a dedicated workload management feature. This can be a big hindrance for businesses that need multiple team members to collaborate on a particular task. The downside of Meistertask is that there can only be one user per task. However, it gives you access to recurring tasks and task dependencies which Trello doesn’t offer. Meistertasks doesn’t quite have the range of features and additional tools that come with Trello. The tasks also have checklists that help you to improve the quality of your various tasks. Their premium plans also give you the ability to automate your task workflows. This implies an extremely high power density. Some of them changed their luminosity very rapidly in the optical range and even more rapidly in the X-ray range, suggesting an upper limit on their size, perhaps no larger than the Solar System. The spectral lines of these objects, which identify the chemical elements of which the object is composed, were also extremely strange and defied explanation. The objects emitted large amounts of radiation of many frequencies, but no source could be located optically, or in some cases only a faint and point-like object somewhat like a distant star. But when radio astronomy began in the 1950s, astronomers detected, among the galaxies, a small number of anomalous objects with properties that defied explanation. Main article: Galaxy § Distinction from other nebulaeīetween 19, it became clear from work by Heber Curtis, Ernst Öpik and others that some objects (" nebulae") seen by astronomers were in fact distant galaxies like the Milky Way. History of observation and interpretation For convenience, the abbreviated form "quasar" will be used throughout this paper. Because the nature of these objects is entirely unknown, it is hard to prepare a short, appropriate nomenclature for them so that their essential properties are obvious from their name. So far, the clumsily long name "quasi-stellar radio sources" is used to describe these objects. The term "quasar" was first used in an article by astrophysicist Hong-Yee Chiu in May 1964, in Physics Today, to describe certain astronomically puzzling objects: 4.1 Spectral lines, reionization, and the early universe.2.3 Development of physical understanding (1960s).2.2 Early observations (1960s and earlier).2 History of observation and interpretation.Concentrations of multiple, gravitationally attracted quasars are known as large quasar groups and constitute some of the largest known structures in the universe. Quasar discovery surveys have demonstrated that quasar activity was more common in the distant past the peak epoch was approximately 10 billion years ago. In early 2021, the quasar J0313–1806, with a 1.6-billion-solar-mass black hole, was reported at z = 7.64, 670 million years after the Big Bang. In 2020, the quasar Pōniuāʻena was detected from a time only 700 million years after the Big Bang, and with an estimated mass of 1.5 billion times the mass of the Sun. Light observed from this 800-million- solar-mass quasar was emitted when the universe was only 690 million years old. In 2017, the quasar ULAS J1342+0928 was detected at redshift z = 7.54. The record for the most distant known quasar continues to change. More than a million quasars have been found, with the nearest known being about 600 million light-years away from Earth. As with other categories of AGN, the observed properties of a quasar depend on many factors, including the mass of the black hole, the rate of gas accretion, the orientation of the accretion disc relative to the observer, the presence or absence of a jet, and the degree of obscuration by gas and dust within the host galaxy. High-resolution images of quasars, particularly from the Hubble Space Telescope, have demonstrated that quasars occur in the centers of galaxies, and that some host galaxies are strongly interacting or merging galaxies. The term quasar originated as a contraction of "quasi-stellar radio source"-because quasars were first identified during the 1950s as sources of radio-wave emission of unknown physical origin-and when identified in photographic images at visible wavelengths, they resembled faint, star-like points of light. The redshifts of quasars are of cosmological origin. Usually, quasars are categorized as a subclass of the more general category of AGN. The radiant energy of quasars is enormous the most powerful quasars have luminosities thousands of times greater than that of a galaxy such as the Milky Way. Gas in the disc falling towards the black hole heats up because of friction and releases energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation. Artist's rendering of the accretion disc in ULAS J1120+0641, a very distant quasar powered by a supermassive black hole with a mass two billion times that of the Sun Ī quasar ( / ˈ k w eɪ z ɑːr/ KWAY-zar also known as a quasi-stellar object, abbreviated QSO) is an extremely luminous active galactic nucleus (AGN), powered by a supermassive black hole, with mass ranging from millions to tens of billions of solar masses, surrounded by a gaseous accretion disc. Running for 30 days, the campaign for Trial by Trolly reeled in more than 55,000 backers, and a total of over $3.5 million. The company turned to Kickstarter in 2019 to launch Trial by Trolly, a party game created in association with the webcomic Cyanide & Happiness published on. In many cases they are barreling past their initial funding goals. Big and midsize game publishers are getting in on the action and using the space to launch their projects, as well. Kickstarter and Indiegogo are undeniably helping to drive the tabletop market by opening doors for creators to finance and build community around their products, but it’s not just micro publishers taking to the platforms. There’s something very genuine about sitting with your friends and sharing in a communal way.” Tabletop provides a level of play that people needed during Covid. “A lot of it stems from this retro nostalgic aspect, and many point to Stranger Things and the resurgence of role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons. “Tabletop has been having a moment for a long time,” Combs says. In 2019, Grand View Research estimated that the playing cards and board games market would reach $21.56 billion by 2025. Tabletop gaming has been enjoying expansion for years. The market research firm Arizton Advisory and Intelligence predicted that board games would see a compound annual growth rate spurt of approximately 13% from 2020 to 2026-a surge driven in part by Covid-related lockdowns.īut to chalk up all of tabletop’s recent success to the pandemic would be shortsighted. Last year, the global board games market grew by 20% over 2019, according to DW, an international news and media site. “We saw a 177% lift in 2020 tabletop games, from the average of two years prior,” says Enzo Njoo, Indiegogo’s head of outreach.Īnya Combs, director of games outreach at Kickstarter, says one of the key reasons that 2020 was such an explosive year of growth for tabletop gaming was the Covid pandemic, which forced everyone indoors for months on end. Of those, more than 60% met or surpassed their funding goals.įellow crowdfunding platform Indiegogo also saw significant growth in 2020. So far in 2021, Kickstarter has launched nearly 4,500 gaming campaigns-more than 2,700 of which were for tabletop games. In 2020, successful Kickstarter campaigns for tabletop games and accessories pulled in upward of $233 million- up from $176.3 million in 2019-according to the gaming news site Polygon. Tabletop is, by a landslide, Kickstarter’s most popular category in the gaming space. Hughes is one of thousands of tabletop game makers turning to Kickstarter and other crowdfunding platforms to bring their dream projects to life. “I thought maybe I’d sell a couple hundred copies,” she says, “but the campaign funded at 540% with 1,771 backers.” Hoping to meet a goal of $10,000, she wound up wrapping her 30-day campaign with over $54,000-enabling her to not only get her product out into the world but to walk away with some profit, too. When Kimi Hughes, the owner of Golden Lasso Games, launched her first Kickstarter campaign for Decuma: The R&D for Your RPG, a tarot-inspired card game, she had no idea whether her endeavor would be successful. They have my first album, 'Criminal Minded.' But then they grew up, they had kids, and now when they hear KRS-One is doing a gospel project, it's easier for them to gravitate towards it because of my history of being a 'conscious rapper.' "īut, he adds, there's also an ongoing transformation of the church. "They bought 'Rapper's Delight' and they were in the clubs. "The gospel community of families were hip-hoppers themselves and probably still are," he suggests. KRS-One's credibility has certainly been enhanced by his long-term promotion of self-awareness and education, and his role in the original Stop the Violence movement. There are longstanding criticisms within the church about mixing spiritual messages with secular beats and rhythms, a situation that first played itself out in the blues-fueled transformation of spirituals to gospel in the '30s and '40s, and again with R&B influences that helped the music cross over to larger audiences in the '60s and '70s. The marriage of hip-hop and gospel hasn't been universally welcome, despite the commercial success of folks like Kirk Franklin and dc Talk. There are also such upbeat affirmations as "Take It to God,' "Lord Live Within My Heart" and "God Is Spirit." As KRS-One puts it in the liner notes, "I am not out of touch with what is in style today, I am simply in touch with God." He addresses sexual responsibility on "Take Your Tyme" ("How you dress makes you constantly blessed or constantly stressed") mourns the passing of allies and peers on "Goodbye," and the victims of 9/11 on "Tears" revisits his own classic on "South Bronx 2002" and generally continues his pointed critiques of materialism, misogyny and violence. What they're hearing is familiar, simply the "conscious rap" KRS-One has championed for years with stronger spiritual and faith-centered lyrics. "Technically, we call it urban inspirational, not gospel rap," says KRS-One, adding that he's nonetheless enjoying this introduction to the gospel community. 22, entered Billboard's gospel chart at No. I see it all as one piece, as one growth." "And I just decided this is the natural evolution of the thinking I've been entertaining for years. a couple of years ago afforded him a chance to get into full-time study of theology. "Why does God think like that? Why is life like this? Are we really pursuing God or the material world?" "Usually I've mentioned the whole concept of rhyming about God from a critical perspective," KRS-One says. He also points to more recent tracks like "The Truth," "Step Into a World (Rapture's Delight)" and a trio from last year's "Sneak Attack" album: "Doth Thou Know," "What Kinda World" and "The Raptism." "Spiritual Minded" - the title referencing "Criminal Minded," KRS-One's groundbreaking 1987 debut with Boogie Down Productions - may be overwhelmingly God-centric, but according to KRS-One, its roots are easily traced, as far back as "Why Is That?" (from BDP's 1989 "Ghetto Music: The Blueprint of Hip-Hop") and "Higher Level" (from 1993's "Return of the Boom Bap"). "So for years I've been studying world religions and, being in the United States, that put the emphasis on the Bible and Christian thought, as well as the Torah and Jewish thought." "When I was about 15 years old, I began to embark on an MC career but also to study philosophy with an emphasis on theology," says KRS-One, an acronym for Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone (he was born Lawrence Krisna Parker). It's a seemingly radical journey into gospel rap for one of the most influential figures in hip-hop history. "It's the Temple of Hip Hop coming at youīut wherever God at, I'm a go." THE TEACHER becomes the Preacher on "Spiritual Minded," KRS-One's 10th album.
